FTTH isn't cheap to build and it won't touch everyone. Coax doesn't touch everyone but it gets more coverage than fiber only. FTTH will be in urban areas for a long time before it stretches across the county lines. The only real contender is twisted pair copper and it is limited by a multitude of issues. It will NEVER beat the speed tests. NEVER ! You can only get video if your within service range for ADSL service which is limted to 1.5 miles from TeleOTN? Scared, Not I

Its amazing how many people dont understand the basics of business.
Customers better be praying that VZ does not put any cable company out of business, Without a cable company, there is no competition. Without competition, there is no reason to improve technology or lower prices.

Granted, the DSLR Threads would be gold when that happens: "VZ SUCKS!" "Wish a cable company would build in my area!"

I don't chime in often I think this is my secound post.  But isnt coax faster as far as speeds go? Fiber carrys the digital signal alot farther without attenuation?  So basically it will never end the battle between fiber and coax, cable companys will just keep making fiber closer and closer to the curb for residential and business customers.

yes we have been doing alot of fiber builds.  We just put in fiber to the Valero Oil refinery plant.  We landed fiber ring for the school district and even the hospitals.  Our construction dept. is going crazy with it all but it makes it alot more reliable.  Here in our area we dont yet have fiber to the curb but i hear that it will be coming soon in the new build areas.  HFC systems are not by any means going to be phased out anytime soon.
