Sombody before me had to rehang a down drop.  Instead of running a new one they just tied the old cable to the feeder like it was messenger wire.  Great way to start my day.

that looks like something poco would do around our area. some of our old drops don't have hangers and use the 4-2-2 (or 2-2-4, i don't know what you old farts did with messenger wrap).  ones that use drop hangers poco just put back on the clamp if there's enough slack.

But, but, but . . .  it changes the electrical properties of the cable!! It messes with the impedance!


Yeah, I know it doesn't, but that's what a trainer here told me. He couldn't explain how, though . . .

a messenger wrap (I use 3-3-5) only changes the impedance of the cable if your doing it wrong.  Only time i use bails is when i know the POCO is going to be doing new poles soon, i leave a little extra slack in the line, and put a bail on, makes it eaiser for them to move and not force me to rehang the drop.  worse case i may need to go take up some slack on the drop depending on what way they go with the new pole.

That shit has been known to cause homicides.  Best one is when your in some shitty way overpopulated area with crappy 3 story townhouses.  Each story is its own apartment.  System design here is to mount a MDU if its 4 or more but 3 or less you have to run drops for each one.  So when you have 6 or 8 of those town houses on the end of the block, your looking at 18 to 24 drops to service the houses, add in another 10 or so of old dead drops that no one bothered to wreck out, 3 8 port taps, and a 4 port tap.  All the drops swallow the line extender,  There are times that I cut anyone not plugged into a tap back to the Q-bolt so i can access the LE.
