I am a DUMB A##

Man am i mad at myself. I did one the dumbest things I could think of today and kind of pricey as well. I cracked my ladder on the edge with my boom.   Came down to grab a battery for a power supply that a guy was handing me, and was paying attention to him and came down just a little too far. I knew it was going some time in this truck. Got bad habits from the old truck that boom wouldn't come in contact with any part on the truck before it hit a stop. This truck is nice and can land to the side. Except it will come in contact with ladder and aux box on the other side before it hits a limit.


Any ways I was a dumb f$#@$ and well busted my ladder. :slap :slap :slap  :duh: :duh: :duh: Boss is being cool though. I offered to pay for it, but declined the offer. Laughed at me a bit but wasn't that upset. Me on the other hand I am still yelling at myself. Bad fing day just bad fing day.

poor bucket guy.  we ladder guys feel sorry for you.   :rolleyes:  just think, now you can call all those ladder weenies that cry for a bucket for anything beyond half extended...  :rock:

I couldn't imagine even offering to pay for that thing! We have guys that lose/destroy DSAMs & Symbol phones, both items supposedly around $2000 each & the company just gives them new ones. I wouldn't think twice about a ladder that cost a few hundred $$$'s. Hey shit happens, better the ladder then a person. Now you'll probably be a little more careful with your new toy.   ;D

Shit... I killed three ladders with my old bucket van... not from setting the boom down on them; but from the edge of the boom rotating up against it. If the ladder wasn't against the outside edge of the rack, when I rotated it would grind up against the edge.

Try doing what one of my techs did.  Forget to tie your ladder down on truck, do sudden stop at intersection, and watch ladder launch into the middle of the intersection.  That's a bone ass mistake.  Your mishap is minor.

I lost my ladder off the rack back when I was an installer... had one of those side loading crank down shitty racks and the fucking thing just came down off the side and as I was making a left turn it went flying into the intersection. Luckily it didn't hit any cars...

I fucking hated that ladder rack.

Ok making me feel better with some of these stories. The accident was a  fresh wound when posted. Anyways pride is healing now, and the other techs are still razzing me but hay I would be doing the same thing.

Got a phone call from one of the new Service techs yesterday. He needed help. Didn't give me no details... So i go to where he's to and i'm wondering why the fuck he would be at a gas station he don't have commercial rights at all.  So the entire time i'm thinking dispatch fucked up and he didn't know any better.

So i get there and what do i see but his van Logged like a bastard inside the car wash hung up on his ladder rack.. The moron thought the truck was dirty so on his lunch he would take it through the automatic carwash. It was wonderful carnage i wish i had of brought my camera haha the washing boom was wrapped around the ladder and there are gouges up the side of the truck where the washing bar had scraped up the side of it.   Anyone looking for employment as a service tech? lol
