:Chris Theft is theft.  Why is it ok for the type of theft that goes on here at this site and not others?  This site has dealt with pirated material, and that is theft.  How do you condemn cable theft and then commit another form of theft yourself?  It seems a bit hypocritical to me.  I'm not trying to start a huge argument ,but merely pointing out the flawed logic.

OK, I'll bite and try to answer in my illogical way, try to keep up...
Music/movie/stars/companies make millons off of us, the viewing/listening audience, every year.  What, honestly do YOU make?   50-60K a year?  Now tell me who is stealing?

I buy a DVD at 12.50 and invite 20 of my friends over to watch the movie.  Do I now have to charge my friends 12.50 per seat and send it to the movie co, or the cable co?   No, I bought the DVD and I can share it with any and all my friends.  I just happen to have 727 friends at my house here at Cabletechs.org.

Where do you get those items. Whenever I look to buy those type of things I just find links for bittorrent versions, so I just go with them instead.  ;D

PS. Shipping is quicker too!

Technically "I" didn't pay for either... a copy of Vista was a present from my wife and I got a copy of Office 2007 free from Microsoft for participating in some survey and another copy of it from my school with my laptop.

Everything else... not so much legal LOL

Sounds alot like what CableTool said in the first post. Overpriced ,but worth corrupting your morals and risking (laff like anyone really gets caught) jail time for?   I do have a  :pee: poor attitude towards comcast that I don't think I will ever get over.  I worked my  :goatse: off for them for 12 years, and I wasn't a slacker.  I give them my all , and they showed me the door.  Over some accidents that frankly 2 out of the 3 wasn't my fault.  I hate Comcast with a fiery passion.  I am stuck doing contract work for this evil empire until I can find something better.  I'm sorry my bitterness is showing a little bit, but I really feel like Comcast has ruined my life.  I was once like some of you, eager to hunt down and disco the illegal drop.  Now I'm eager to find a new career and hopefully forget the word Comcast.
Does your company really deserve your loyalty?  Does going the extra mile pay off in the end?  Maybe.  It didn't for me.
Comcast is what Irks me.  After all that I have been through in the last 2 years , cable theft doesn't really seem worth consideration for what Irks me.

Morale is in the shitter where I'm at since they shifted management areas.

There isn't a bit of loyalty to the people that put their all in the job.

1 Definition of Theft is... "Dishonest appropriation of property without the owner’s consent, with intent to deprive them of its use, either temporarily or permanently"
It's not always the money issue for me personally as I know that some of these that I catch wont be buying the service after I disconnect them, but the fact that they are hurting the services for paying customers and I'm the guy who's looked upon poorly when it happens.
As far as pirated digital media, I don't do that... usually
I'm not gonna say I haven't tried something for free before I bought it (Left For Dead) or deleted (Saints Row 2 Pc Version) , but these where given to me freely by somebody who purchased the merchandise. This didn't deprive the original seller or customers in any way.
Is it Theft from Home-Depo when you borrow a neighbors shovel to put in a mailbox post instead of buying one ?
It is a 2 sided sword that's better left stuck in stone for Merlin to find.

I feel if you changed occupations, you would still have a hatred for Comcast, kinda like the old divorced guy who does nothing but talk about how his ex-wife of 20 years ago ruined his life, instead of moving on to a new and usually better chapter in life.

I do sympathize, but be it Fate/Bad Luck/Bad Choices... shrug it off and keep looking for something better.
After a couple years in the service dept. , I used to long to be an electrician... wiring an empty newly framed house all by myself with nothing but the radio jamming for company.
Most of them are out a job ATM and putting in apps to the Cable Co. now...

That's not the same thing. You license the media and it states may only be viewed on one tv/whatever at a time. So 727 people crammed in your house is perfectly legal [save for capacity laws from your city/county ordinances] actually, 727 copies downloaded here is not. I'm not calling anyone in for it, but no if and or buts about it what your doing is WRONG. However, is speeding, and I'm guilty as hell of that, just not in my work van. The company can fire you for tickets however, so you better be smart about getting that rush. :) Its the Florida farm boy in me, I broke 100 before I had a legal license in a 3 on the tree 1967 impala. its my vice if you will, if you're a digital clepto so be it. I can deal with that. The people that piss me off are the ones that won't admit that [its not physical property so its not theft], try to blame other people for it [its the music industries fault, not mine] or just can't face the truth, IMHO that's cowardice right there. Everyone does something wrong, the real question of character is, can you admit it.

PS 50-60K a year try 35-45K unless you been here for a LONG time or you get a lot of overtime. At mid year I was at 22K working one day of overtime every week, been cut out of it for 1.5 months now, thankfully its available the rest of the year for the moment.
You went full retard, man. Never go full retard!

I know what you mean, Alot of companies will use and abuse you. Once your physically and mentall spent, they will throw you away like the spent stripper cartridge.  Our company isn't to horrible, they give great benefits. Aside from the medical and shit you would expect.  We get 50% off all services, and anything the Rogers company owns. SO baseball and hockey tickets, concerts, movie rentals. Car rentals, You name it there is a discount for it.

520, i really know what you mean. I seen good guys thrown to the wolves just because someone didn't like how they personally did something.  It's bullshit with alot of these companies, and my own i agree there is often alot of crap.  I think what makes it a little better for us is that we are the smallest market with the company. So everyone literally knows everyone. Happy hunting Man.

We've all had illegals that we got a hardon for. The repeat offender is one of them.  Had a guy years ago that kept connecting himself in a trailer park. I'd disco, he'd reco.  I cut his drop down to the bottom of the ped, he'd make a jumper and hook himself back up.  I was there once with one of the senior techs, and found he'd reconnected himself again. The tech pulled the drop up all the way to this guy's trailer and yanked it out. You could hear the TV crash inside.  He pulled all of the drop wire out, right down to the end with the missing connector.  That was great.

Back in the days before regulation, we used to charge so much per outlet per month.  I went to a house on a poor reception call one of the service techs had turned in. Got the signal issue straightened out and went to check the ground block.  I found an 8 way splitter with to hex crimp fittings and seven screw on Wal Mart fittings on it. I cut everything loose except the outlet he was paying for and installed a ground block. The customer came home as I was leaving and lit into my ass good "You cut off all of my connectors!!  You should ask someone before you do this!!"  "Sir" I replied, "You were stealing".     My manager raked my ass over the coals good for that one. Seems this guy's wife worked for the local newspaper. What was she going to do? Write an article about how I cut off their illegal outlets?
My favorite was always the guy who had crawled under the house and tapped into the line to the living room to run an outlet to the bedroom and was pissed with me because his picture had been bad ever since.  I'd find the splitter, splice the drop back together, fuck up the ports on the splitter, and throw it as far as I could away from the crawl door.

Some days I hate cable customres.
It's all fun and games until the flying monkies show up.

old thread is old. But I have hundreds of memories of running the tap audit crew in the 80s.

Been there too. A news reporter did a series of cutesy articles about getting a job here in our paradise in the Sunday paper. One of the articles was about getting utilities turned on. He had the gall to write that his upstairs neighbor was able to 'share' the cable connection.

I hunted him down, found that he was not (yet) a subscriber and set the audit crew out in our most humiliating way. 3 service trucks with amber strobes on, about 30 cones closing one lane of traffic, me the supervisor, SLMs tuned to aircraft band with buzzing crackling noises on the speaker,  hooked to phony search loops (really was a CRT de-gauss loop), 35 mm camera with a big fricking zoom lens. Badges. Walkie talkies turned up loud. Not one word was mentioned accusing anyone of theft.

We cut him off and left a apologetic door tag (How can our records ever be wrong? If we have inconvenienced you in any way blah blah) then cut off the neighbor for added outlets & "radiation". We could not fix the radiation, that calls for the specialty crew you know, the ones in lead suits with geiger  counters.

Might also mention that the newspaper hated us. There could be a school bus full of orphans burning in the oil tank farm surrounded by alligators and the headline would be about cable rates going up. At the time our local ad insertion program must have been killing the paper's profits. The hate never ended.

I was reamed. The reporter signed up, we gave him a 3 month free package and he only wrote that his decision to borrow his neighbors cable was a bad one. I had to put away my cable SWAT team road show and never do that again.
