How to - read the constellation on your meter.
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:58:58 AM »
This is a pdf file I found at trilithic.com that I think is awesome. It explains in rather good detail but low tech terms what the constellation will read and what it means. Most of us can get by with SNR/BER/MER just fine but this may help you determine if problems are likely premise or plant from the first reading.

Its 9+ megs and trilithic's server is no race car, so may take a while

Now all we need to do is get C* to enable said feature.

Sigh...

You guys get everything out there. We still have meters with an analog dial on it that shows dbmv levels. Our voltage detector is our tongue and to install phone we have to use an old phone with the wires stripped at the end and wrap it around bare copper to check for dialtone.

We also have to walk to each job, uphill both ways with our ladders on our shoulders and our tools on our belt.

yea no doubt! If i had a dollar for every time I was cutting in a fitting at the end of a CCP drop with my teeth and forgot to pull the power pin.....

But yeh no constellation here, the FNTs get it but hardly use it.  The big thing here is DQI.  If DQI doesn't show a problem there mustnot be one.

We had it enabled on our meters but in all their wisdom the geniuses who are "tweaking" the home certification program locked out all of the "advanced" functions on the meters...

I just dont understand how it makes sense to disable functions on the meter while developing a method to make us prove we are using said meter. I guess Im just too logical to ever make it in management.

What kills me is that when I get a maintenance ticket for digital tiling, I get the MER and BER for the DOCSIS channels!! because everyone knows all 380 digital channels are carried on those 4 QAM channels!

What good is having constellation, when most of the techs (in my system) can't even tell me what EIA channel a given network is carried on?

Because even though comcast Xfinity does not train them we link stuff here so they can get trained?
